Metaverse in 2019 – Where AR/VR/MR Will Go This Year

Happy New Year!

Are you done with listing your resolutions?

Whether you actually have a list or not, the one thing for sure is that we all have a certain hope for each new year. Here at App Igniter, we’re more excited than ever to welcome the 2019 in metaverse.

What’s in store in the XR industry this year is anyone’s guess, but we can be certain that this year is gonna be bigger than the last. So where should we put our focus on?

Mixed Reality Presentation

App Igniter is Gaining Influence in Indonesia

Since its inception in 2011, App Igniter has been focusing on Singapore market. But recently we have been getting a lot of enquiries from our neighboring country, Indonesia.

Starting 2018 we have started getting projects from Indonesia and many companies there are starting to hear about us.

However, what we are truly grateful for was the opportunity to kickstart the Mixed Reality movement in Indonesia. Together with a few MR enthusiasts, we formed a core group to spread this technology to the masses in Jakarta. This resulted in the forming of Mixed Reality Community Indonesia. And last October I was invited to be one of the speakers for its first meetup.

5 Undisputed Advantages of VR-based Training

Employee training done right is a tough nut to crack. Yet, now it’s more critical then ever to get the right onboarding system. Faster employee turnaround means more time allocated on training. If the training system stays the same, productivity suffers.

Here’s why VR-based training can transform the system.

How AR Can Revolutionize Education

I’m a big believer on education… but not so much on education system.

I feel the system is still heavily oriented towards passive learning. Students are force-fed tons of information without any practical guidance on how to use it in real life. Low motivation and shallow absorption rate is the result.

We need to do something about it, unless we are still ok with releasing a bunch of graduates every year who are clueless about their career running around applying random jobs like headless chickens.

There is a silver lining in this status quo. With the new paradigm shift in the education industry, many promising solutions are starting to come into the light.

One of them is Augmented Reality.

Want to Develop AR/VR/MR Content? Start Learning Unity

The thing I love about programming is because it’s fun to see how things work out the way you design it to be. Actually, it’s funnier sometimes when things don’t go according to your design.

It goes doubly so for 3D content development.

However, there are usually more headaches in development when you start considering the hardware you want to deploy to.

Coming from mobile app development, I know first hand how hard it is just synchronizing between Android and iOS.

Now this hold true by a magnitude in the XR ecosystem. Every few months there is a new headset coming. Each with their own set of SDK written in many different programming languages.

AR, VR, MR, XR, RR… Which is Which?

The pace of technological growth in the “R” industry is astounding. Unsurprisingly, an increase in glossary of related terms comes with the territory.

It’s not a shame, really, to mixed up some of those terms. It has become too common a scenario when clients approached me to inquire about AR service while they really meant VR and vice versa.

Hence after a while I made this educational info as one of the first slides in my pitch deck.

Let’s define them.

How VR Transforms Mundane Safety Training into an Engaging Experience

Emergency response training is the bane of most safety officers.

Who can blame them? There are basically only 2 choices to take:

  1. Conduct a powerpoint-based presentations. 100% theory-filled pages full of bullet lists and occasional outdated pictures.
  2. Prop-based classroom. A room with tools and contraptions that participants can pretend-use.

The first option is the most common form due to its simplicity and low cost. However it’s hard to imagine going to one without putting a huge label of “BORING” on it. Moreover the absorption rate is extremely low. It seems like the trainer and the participants are both just barely awake throughout the presentation… but they did just for the sake of fulfilling job requirements.
